Earlier this year the Church Council agreed to look at the possibility of starting cell groups. A meeting was held in August for anyone interested, and from this two groups have been established. Here is an update on what is happening now.
What are cell groups?
Definetly nothing to do with prison! They are called after the cells in all plants and animals, that produce growth. A church cell group is something that plans to keep on growing - new members are always welcome. When a group gets too big to meet in one house, it will split into two, and keep on growing further.
What do they do?
They help us look at what it means to live a Christian life, and to share our experiences with one another. The pattern of each meeting is something like this:
Welcome and time to chat to each other, sometimes about a particular fun subject.
Worship - anything including silent reflection, DVD images, thoughts on a Bible text.
Discussion on some aspect of Cristian living, referring to our own experiences and to the Bible text.
Time for prayer, concern for others, thought on how we can reach out to them.
How do they work?
William Swires is helping the groups get established, but the meetings are often led by members of the groups, sharing the different parts and helping where they feel they want to (all volunteers - no conscripts!).
Would you like to join a cell group?
There are two cell groups meeting at the moment. One group meets alternate Wednesdays and the other group meets alternate Mondays.
Each group has its individual style, but a member who misses one meeting is welcome to go to another group to catch up. The groups follow the same subjects, looking at what we believe and how we live. So far we have been using a book about cell groups, but in the new year we will be choosing a new book to follow.
This is not a closed shop, nor does it need any special Bible knowledge. We learn from each other's experience. If you are interested please contact us for more information
